The Venue for Accio 2005: Reading University
Accio UK have choosen to host their first conference at the University of Reading.
Reading University was established in 1892, affiliated to Oxford University. It was chartered as an independent university in 1926. It is a campus university, meaning that we are able to host all our lectures, games and feasts within a few minutes walk of each other.
The lectures and seminars will be hosted in the Palmer Building, a purpose built building, completely refurbished for 2004 with state of the art equipment.
To foster the feeling of camaraderie, we are encouraging all delegates to stay on the campus at the Windsor Hall of Residence. Here there are a choice of standard rooms with wash basin and shared bathroom facilities or rooms with en-suite shower and toilet - all single. Rooms of 8 are grouped together in quasi-flats around a small kitchen and lounge area. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided here, and delegates will be able to cook their own additional food if they need.
The residential price is all-inclusive. This means that the following will be provided: Friday: Dinner (3-course cafeteria style), Saturday, Full English Breakfast, sandwich lunch, conference feast as well as tea or coffee in the mid-morning and afternoon. Sunday, Full English Breakfast, mid-morning coffee and closing lunch. Delegates may want to purchase additional snacks, but we believe that additional funds will only be needed for souvenirs and the conference charity auction.
Delegates will be able to request in advance that they wish to reserve their accommodation next to other named delegates. We will try to honour all such requests.
Windsor Hall does have rooms which cater for differing degrees of disability. Please let us know any special needs when you register.
We have only booked a limited number of rooms at this point, and although we may be able to book further accommodation, we cannot guarantee it. For this reason, we recommend that you book early.
We do understand that despite the good value offered by the university accommodation that not everybody will wish to stay there. Those who opt for non-residential membership will have all their meals included with the exception of breakfast.
The University maintain a list of local hotels/guest houses. Those in Area 1 are within approximately 15 minutes walk from the Palmer Building. ECMWF also have a list of hotels, including more expensive options and a map.
