Biography of Author Presenting at Accio 2005
Julia Collar
Julia Collar has been in post as project worker for Milton Keynes Anti-Bullying Network since January 2004. Prior to taking up this position Julia was Religious Studies subject co-ordinator for the Philosophical and Religious Studies Learning and Teaching Support Network (PRS-LTSN), a Higher Education body dedicated to improving standards of learning and teaching across the university sector; the focus of her research being equal opportunities, developing pedagogies informed by Queer Theory, and training new academic staff.
Julia's time is now spent working in both formal and informal educational settings engaging children, young people and professionals in activities that raise awareness of bullying through a variety of workshops, training events, theatre-in-education performances, campaigns, and consultancy work. Julia established and facilitates the EVOLVE project, an intensive four day course for young people who have been victims of bullying and are at risk of disengaging with education, and will shortly launch REVOLVE, a similar package targeted at young people at risk of exclusion from school for bullying others.
Julia lives in Bedfordshire with her partner Anna, a Children's Librarian for Luton Borough Council, and also a huge fan of Harry Potter. They occasionally fight over who's going to take the Sorting Hat to work, but the magic of a good cup of tea usually resolves the issue!
